November 2011 Monthly Social

Hello SIA squashers,

As we gear up for the Nov-Dec holidays, time to also put in some exercise in anticipation of the feasting that will surely come ;-)

Let's get together for this month's Squash Nite:

Date: Thursday 17th Nov
Time: 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm, or as late as we can hack it ;-)
Venue: Squash courts, SIA Group Sports Club.
Both courts have been booked for our use from 6pm - 9pm on that day.

Let's plan on going for late dinner and beers too, after torturing each other in the courts!
Show of hands, who can make it?

Friday Oct 21st squash social

Dear all,

I'd like to propose a Friday evening squash social. Next month, Oct 21st.

Venue: Squash courts at SIA Sports Club.
Open to members and non members of the Club. Let's get together and have some fun at the courts followed by dinner.

Time: 6.00pm onwards.
Depending on number of response, I will book the court time accordingly.

Cost: To arrange the dinner catering, I suggest a fee of $12 for non members (which is also needed to cover guest fees) and $8 for members of the Club.
If you cannot stay back for the dinner, then it will be just the Guest fees for non members, and free for members.

Whether you want to play or not, come by and join the social, catch up with old friends ;-)

Let me know please if you can make it, Cheers!

Singapore CIMB Women Open 2011 Semifinals

I've got a recording of the two semifinal matches, taken from the broadcast from Racquet Channel a few weeks ago. Not sure if they have screened the final. If you remember, this was one of the rare occasion where Nicol David registered a loss.

Two matches of contrasting pace, style and feel.
Anyone wants a copy, let me know ;-)

Keep squashing,
Felix

Bilateral: vs Singapore Swimming Club, 16 Oct

Trust you are all looking forward to the bilateral (code for friendly games) against Chinese Swimming Club on 18th Sept.

The next one is on 16th Oct (Sunday), vs Singapore Swimming Club (SSC), hosted at our SIA Sports Club. Squash event playing format is suggested as 4-men and 1-lady. Start time is 4.00pm for us.

As usual, there'll be camaraderie and dinner which follows. It's always nice to meet with old friends from SSC and indeed, make new ones. And its a good opportunity as any for us to meet up as well - and drink the Club's beer! So, sign up mateys ;-) Let me know if you are able to play.

Keep squashing,
Felix

HKG trip: Sept 23-25

Dear all,

Unfortunately, as only Mazlan and myself are confirmed for the trip, it is best to postpone it. Wendy had to withdraw late on.

The Club had been agreeable to support the trip even with a 3-player team as it was accepted that international team tournaments are played in 3-player formats. Of course, it would have been nice to have more in our travelling team.

So, when is a good date for some of you in the coming months? Please let me know so I can arrange with our friends from CX ;-)

Cheers all, and keep squashing.
Felix

Squash (and siew-ngo, seafood, dimsum, beers) trip - HK

Squashers,

A trip to HK is being planned from Sept 23rd - 24th - 25th (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Apart from the food, and shopping, the trip is also an opportunity for us to re-connect with our close friends at CX Squash. We have an annual match with them after all, which is really just an excuse to share airline talk and drink each other silly ;-)
Planned itinerary:
Friday 23 Sept Land into HK by early afternoon.
Late lunch
Play CX in late evening
Late night supper

Saturday 24 Sept Morning Free time
Play CX in late afternoon
Seafood dinner, followed by drinks and some dirty dancing (if the legs can still handle it)

Sunday 25 Sept Catch flights back to SIN at own time.

The SIA Sports Club has a subsidy for each travelling member, in support of the activities of our group. It is, per pax, $200 or 50% of the approved subsidy rate, whichever is lesser. Not insignificant. Make your membership subscription count.

Approximate budget per pax, on a twin sharing basis, for those travelling from SIN:

Hotel: S$120/pax/night = S$240

Airfare: ID90 EY
$80 + $35 + $72 = S$187

Meals: Bfast, Lunch, Dinner
S$10 S$20 S$30
S$20 + S$60 + S$60 = S$140

Transport, Misc @ S$15/day = S$ 45

TOTAL = S$612

Of course, some of you may be ale to work out a flight pattern which brings you there over those days. That will save you some $.

The trip will be on if we can get at least 5 players. Because it involves our friends at CX who have to confirm courts/rosters etc, lets fix Aug 15th as the due date to firm the trip, or not. So, who's keen to go???

At the moment, the confirmed list include:
Me
Wendy Quah
