Club Players Training Trial Monday 02 Aug to 19th September

Dear SIA Squashers,

The above trial for the flexible booking facility for active club players will commence from 02th Aug to 19 Sept 2010.

The flexible booking facility will be made available to current active club players*. A list of players and their names is appended below.
Details of the trial and list of eligible active players will be posted on our blog at siasquash.blogspot.com

The aim of the trial is to enable active club players to book court time for practice during the span of the opening hours of the club's courts. This will enable our players to have better access to the club's courts and at the same time freeing the courts for members to book when they would have otherwise been blocked for club player training on the existing fixed training days.

Booking Proceedure

Each player may book 1 hour of court time up to a maximum of 2 hours per week with a limitation that a player cannot book 2 hours of court time back-to-back. You will require two club players names to book a 2 hour back-to-back booking.

There is a 11 hour maximum cap on the total court hours available per week for club player booking.

All cancellations to bookings should be made 24 hours in advance so as to free up the courts for booking by other members.

Players may call the SIA Sports Club Reception at 62148168 to make a booking in advance. The club's receptionist will check your membership number against the list of current active club players* before confirming your booking.
List of Active Club Players

The list will be updated and provided to the club on a regular basis and will be used by the receptionist to verify bookings by club players. Any queries on the list of active club players can be directed to Jeremy747@Live.com

To qualify as an active club player you must participate in one of the below tournaments in the previous calendar year or the current year:

World Airline Squash Tournament (WAST)

Inter Airline Tournament (e.g. SQ -CX Bilateral)

SSRA National Squash League

SIA Sports Club Bilaterals ( e.g. Chinese Swimming Club and Singapore Swimming Club Bilateral Games).

Online Calendar To Manage Club Player Training Days

Dear Squashers,,

I have set up an online calendar at this website address www.my.calendars.net/siasquash

Anyone can go to this website and put events in the calendar.

Just go there and add your name as an event on the days that you want to play. So when everyone puts in their available days of play, you can see from the calendar who you can call to arrange to play at the club.

We will try this out to see if it works. If not then I will delete the calendar when the trial ends.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a free online calendar where we can all put our names on dates where would like to play squash.
You can also visit the calendar to see who is playing on any particular day. Make use of the calendar and the upcoming club player training trial to arrange games/training sessions with other club players.
Can some of you test out the calendar to see if it works.
I have already put in my off days next week where I can play squash. But make sure you confirm with the person by email that the game is on. Putting your name there does not mean you will turn up but rather an indication that you are available to play.

We have reached the middle of the NSL 2010 league season. We have made some mid season lineup changes and recruited some active players to beef up some of the teams that were faced with shortage of players.

The E team is doing well winning half their games so far. Keep up the good work.

Hopefully we will see more blue on the chart in the second half of the season.

NSL 2010 Administrative Information.

Dear Squashers,

NSL 2010 will be commencing soon. Appended below are some of the information that will assist the team captains and vice captains during the course of the NSL season.

1. Home Courts Usage

Once the fixtures have been finalised, team captains are to send Rosalind (rosalind_sum@siasportsclub.sg) a copy of the schedule and team captains are to request for the club to book both courts for the home game dates. Please assist the club by highlighting the dates on the fixtures before sending it to them. 1 week before the home game call the Sports Club Reception at 62148168 to confirm courts are booked. The club will also provide refreshments for the home games. In the drinks are not delivered to the courts, call the Chinese Restaurant at the club (62148178) and instruct them to send the drinks and sign for it when it is delivered.

2. Home Team Paperwork

As the hosting team, we have to provide one new ball for each game. Captain can request to collect a new box of balls from Rosalind when required. Hosting team must also provide the score sheets and the official score card. The NSL division convenors will send you a soft copy of the score card which you can print and keep in stock.

Our own in house score sheet is attached below:

[Click on the image to enlarge]

The winning team will send in the completed score card to SSRA. I also require all captains to make a copy of ALL score cards regardless of whether we are hosting or we are visiting using your camera phone and send me a copy for filing. This is the only evidence we can fall back on during any disputes and grading promotion disputes later on.

Team captains and individual players are to track their players' progress carefully, especially now that we are playing in multiple grades. For those who are winning, it is important to note how many players you have won who are of higher grade than yourself. For example an NG player plays in E and D grade. He scores a win against a D2, an E1, and an E2 player. He is promoted immediately after winning the 3rd player to the E2 grade and the E team lineup has to be changed immediately and the the NSL E grade convenor must be informed immediately. If he continues to win another two D grade players, then he is also promoted to the D2 grade after his third win against a D grade player. He will no longer be allowed to continue to play in the E grade for the remainder of the season. In the above example, when I refer to a D grade opponent, the opponent must be D1 or D2 grade, not an E or NG opponent playing in the D grade league. That is why a copy of the score card is very important to track a player's promotion. Therefore our own team captains must keep our own NSL club convenor updated with the scorecards every week.

Entire teams have been disqualified in the NSL when they flout the above rules intentionally or inadvertently, especially when precious points are at stake for the league champion title. Traditionally (I mean the last 6 years or so), most teams do take maximum points when they play against SIA. On the flip side of the coin, there is also a pressure for them to do so when they play against us if they are aiming to become league champions. Historically, there is also an element of luck. If all our players are in town, they will lose some points. If everyone is away, it will be a walk in the park for them to take all 5 points.

3. Away Games

Captains may claim directly from the club with receipts for refreshments during away games. Approved budget is between $10-15 per away game.

4. Rules of Squash

Please visit this link and print out an abbreviated copy of the rules of squash. It is very helpful in your decision when to award a let or a stroke. In the event of a dispute, you have something to refer to. Also please be conversant with the application of rule 17

5. Have Fun

SIA Sports Club & Estella Gardens players are in this league to enjoy the game and add variety to the type of opponents that we are playing against to improve our own game. I expect all players to promote true sportsmanship at all times regardless of the outcome of the game. It is the responsibility of the team captains and players to ensure that we stick to this guiding principle.
